“BGCI is conducting an analysis of ex situ collections of Magnoliaceae taxa using information held in our PlantSearch database. This survey will allow us to identify which species are present in ex situ collections around the world. It will also help us identify any threatened species currently absent from ex situ collections that could be prioritised for future ex situ conservation programmes. This ex situ survey will be an update to the 2008 ex situ survey of Magnoliaceae, allowing us to assess progress made in the last eight years.”
How you can help?
- If your garden has a Magnoliaceae collection, please ensure your collection data is up to date on our PlantSearch database (http://www.bgci.org/plant_search.php).
- If your collection data is not yet uploaded to PlantSearch, information on how to upload your data can be found athttp://www.bgci.org/worldwide/plant_upload/.
- Please send photos of your Magnolia collections to redlist@bgci.org, including species name and a credit for the photo. These photos may be used in our report. We are particularly interested in photos of rare collections.
